ABSTRACT_DESC = "This data set comprises Titan atmosphere temperature, aerosol and ice profiles retrieved from limb viewing IR spectra from the Cassini Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS) instrument." CITATION_DESC = "" DATA_SET_DESC = " Data Set Overview ================= 1.DATA The aerosol and ice profiles presented here were retrieved from CIRS Focal Plane 1 (FP1) spectra covering the range 50-550 cm-1, with a spectral resolution of 15.5 cm-1. The data are from far-IR limb scan observations, in which the single FP1 field of view was slowly scanned vertically, providing roughly 350 spectra distributed over an altitude range from the surface to approximately 600 km. These scans are performed at a range of about 20,000 km, giving a spatial resolution of about 140 km for the full width of the FP1 detector, although the ~2 to 3 km altitude difference between successive spectra allows for a higher effective resolution of the retrieved profiles. From these observations, vertical and spectral dependencies of the aerosol and a condensate ice were determined using the methods described in Anderson and Samuelson (2011). Temperatures above ~150 km were retrieved from CIRS focal plane 4 (FP4) limb mapping observations taken near in time to the FP1 limb scans, using the nu4 absorption band of methane between 1270-1310 cm-1 as described in Achterberg et al. (2008). Temperatures at lower altitudes were retrieved from the same FP1 limb spectra as the aerosol and ice opacities using a constrained linear inversion procedure similar to that used for the FP4 retrievals, using the spectra interval 70 - 150 cm-1 where the opacity is primarily from collision induced absorption of N2-N2 and N2-CH4 pairs, and the aerosols and condensate ice opacities derived by Anderson and Samuelson (2011). 2. FORMAT OF THE FILES: For each FP1 limb scan, there are two resulting data files. One provides the retrieved spectral dependence of the aerosol and ice absorption from 20 - 560 cm-1, both normalized to 1 at 100 cm-1. The second file provides the vertical profiles of temperature in K and the volume extinction coefficients in cm-1 for the aerosol and condensate absorption at 100 cm-1. The spectral dependence files contain three columns: 1. Wavenumber, in cm-1. 2. Wavenumber dependence of the volume extinction of the aerosol, scaled to 1 at 100 cm-1. 3. Wavenumber dependence of the volume extinction of the ice, scaled to 1 at 100 cm-1. The vertical dependence files contain five columns: 1. Pressure, in mbar 2. Altitude, in km 3. Temperature, in K, used in the aerosol profile retrievals. 4. Volume extinction coefficient at 100 cm-1 for the aerosol. 5. Volume extinction coefficient at 100 cm-1 for the ice.
