Origin of the data
The Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO) was launched on May 20,1978 and reached orbit on Dec 4, 1978. Entry into the atmosphere ended the mission on Oct 8, 1992. This restored data includes Radio Occultations and documentation retrieved from the National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) and from figures in publications. Profiles available in the NSSDC dataset are labeled as “NSSDC” profiles and profiles derived from published figures as “graphical” profiles. The derived data products are frequency data, ionospheric electron density profiles and neutral atmospheric temperature profiles.

Selecting Data
The following indices can be used to assess the files. They include time, latitude, longitude, solar zenith and local solar time. Specific files can be acquired by selecting and submitting a list of URNs to Retrieving Data.
