InSight’s Entry and Descent (NASA/JPL-Caltech)
This dataset contains an atmospheric reconstruction, derived from the aerodynamic accelerations and rotation rates recorded by the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) of the InSight spacecraft along its atmospheric entry trajectory. The dataset was produced at the Royal Observatory of Belgium.
The dataset covers the time interval from 2018-11-26T19:39:03.3441and 2018-11-26T19:42:32.6144 (UTC), sampled at 0.005 seconds as determined by the 200 Hz sampling rate of the IMU. The dataset covers a planetocentric altitude range of about 126 km down to 5.7 km, referenced to radial distance of 3396.19 km from the center of Mars, which is the average equatorial MOLA radius.
Atmospheric density, pressure, and temperature, including their standard deviations, are tabulated in the data file edl_atmosphere.tab. Some trajectory conditions are provided in this data file as well. A larger file, ed_complete.tab, includes all the values from the smaller data file, with the addition of IMU measurements, detailed trajectory conditions, and aerodynamic force coefficients. The complete IMU Data from the entry till touchdown is given in edl_imu_data. All files are formatted as text columns of fixed width, separated by at least three space characters.
