About HASI Data

1. Organization

  • The HASI archive consists of a single volume data set.

  • The archive volume contains all the data products of HASI (at different processing levels) organized into subdirectories corresponding to the HASI subsystems plus a directory for higher level products (PROFILES). It also includes calibration reports and instrument documentation.

2. Directory and File Naming

The HASI archive data volume contains the following directories:

  • CALIB - The calibration directory contains calibration reports and their associated label files for each of the HASI subsystems: ACC (triaxial ACCelerometer), TEM (TEMperature sensors), PPI (Pressure Profile Instrument), PWA (Permittivity, Wave, and Altimetry package), and HK (Data Processing Unit (DPU) Housekeeping).

  • CATALOG - The catalog directory contains general information about the data set, including information about the instrument, personnel involved, and references.

  • DATA - The data directory contains the measurements from each of the HASI subsystems as well as higher level data products.

  • DOCUMENT - The documentation directory contains important HASI documents and the instrument health report. See below for more details.

  • INDEX - The index directory contains the archive index for the entire data volume.

There is no software provided with the HASI dataset. The data are in ASCII table format and are readable by a variety of plotting software packages.

The HASI data files follow the naming conventions:


  • The DATA PROCESSING LEVEL is 2, 3, or 4.

  • The SUBSYSTEM field is ACC, TEMP, PPI, PWA, or DPU.

  • The MISSION PHASE field is E (entry), D (descent), or S (surface).

  • The DATATYPE field refers to the various sensors used to make the measurements.

  • The EXT field is the file name extension, which describes what type of file it is.

3. Documentation

  • Users are strongly encouraged to review the HASI AAREADME.TXT file. This file appears in the root directory of the HASI volume.

  • Further details of the HASI archive volume can be found in the "Experimenter to Archive Interface Control Document" (EACID) Document, which is found in the DOCUMENT directory on the data volume.

  • A detailed description of the instrument can be found in the HASI User Manual, which is also in the DOCUMENT directory on the data volume.
